San Francesco d’Assisi, Emozioni dell’uomo

From 9:30 to 17:00
Location: Santuario di Lucia
Address: Campo San Geremia - Venezia, 30121 Italia (Directions)

During Venice Carnival, from 27 January to 17 February 2024, the Santuario di Lucia in Venice hosts a photo exhibition and a great mechanical Nativity scene.

The photo exhibition “San Francesco d’Assisi. Emozioni dell’uomo”  by Lorenzo, a Californian artist, depicts the saint’s feelings through ten shots.

In a Californian photographic studio, together with a team of actors and technicians, the context of the Saint and his feelings were interpreted and reproduced. And then, a reflection on the great themes that run through modern society, such as wealth and poverty, health and illness, the organisation of time.

In addition to this you will find the exciting story of San Francesco’s funerary mask, also transferred to The Mask Trilogy: a treasure hunt to find a ‘real’ funerary mask made in Pixar’s American studios, and exceptionally displayed in the exhibition.

This mask is a link between the exhibition and Venice Carnival, which this year coincides with the 800th anniversary of the invention of the Nativity scene by San Francesco d’Assisi. For this reason, the same room also hosts another artwork: a great moving Nativity scene created by artist Francesco Bonvissuto.

Santuario di Lucia is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., free admission.
