“Tell me about your long journey. Tell me about the places you have visited and those you have yet to explore.” – this was Kublai Khan’s request to Marco Polo, who had just arrived at his court. Antonia Sautter, the multifaceted Venetian stylist who conceived Il Ballo del Doge, imagines the young Venetian in this precise moment, having just arrived in the presence of the very powerful emperor of the “unknown lands of the Orient”.
Put on your costume and experience the excitement of participating in the Carnival with our exclusive masquerade ball!
“At the Court of the Great Khan,” is the title of the official Dinner Show of the Venice Carnival 2024 at Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, once again signed by the designer Antonia Sautter. On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4, and from the 8th to the 13th of February 2024, among sumptuous costumes and unforgettable artistic performances, travelers will gather in the magnificent halls overlooking the Grand Canal to indulge at the table and, for one night, give space to their deepest desires: a journey “ad Oriente” in the footsteps of Marco Polo, among Eastern Queens and Emperors of the steppes, merchants, and mystical fortune tellers.
Imagination and memory overlap, and his words unleash a wave of colours, spicy flavours, exotic scents and scenic pictures before the enchanted eyes of the court of Kublai Khan.
Hypnotic oriental dances open the imaginative journey that Antonia Sautter weaves for the guests of the Casinò di Venezia show, retracing the stages of the Travels of Marco Polo: Turkey, Arabia, Persia, Mongolia, India and on to Siam and the Indian Ocean. An enchanting Scheherazade is at Marco Polo’s side: who could be better suited to help the young Venetian spice up his tales of the Orient?
Inspired by Italo Calvino’s novel “Invisible Cities”, in which the great author imagined all the cities with the name of a woman, the gala show “At the Court of the Great Khan” created by Antonia Sautter (literally!) revisits the stories of Marco Polo, transforming the countries and territories of his voyage into melodies, ancient costumes, masks and allegorical paintings that float in front of the guests, submerging them in the same whirlwind of sensations as the protagonists of this extraordinary encounter between East and West, the 700th anniversary of which is being celebrated by this Carnival.
Period or themed costumes are mandatory, so evening gowns or tuxedos are not allowed.
