BLAME THE MOON
Unpredictable extravagances for dreamers and time travellers.
Fifty years after the moon landing, the Venice Carnival is inspired by the Moon and, looks up at the infinite sky, at the stars and their seductive myths. A bestiary of legends, myths, heroes and characters between dreams and reality is preparing to invade Venice and the mainland, hiding behind the Shakespearean motto “Blame the moon, when it gets too close to the Earth it makes everyone crazy”.
Because the Moon, with its different phases, has the same principles as the masked figures: it shows itself unveiled but wears the sunlight’s noble dress, which makes it shine. To us, it appears varied and mutable, but it is always its same old self. It is the great actor of the Vault of Heaven, bold and moody, a traitor: when it wants to fascinate us, it blushes. The Moon is the Carnival: with its phases, it controls the biological rhythms and reminds us of the passing of time, of birth, adulthood and death. But its death is never final and just like Carnival, it returns each time to make us crazy, us poor primitive creatures waiting for the next full moon.
VENETIAN FESTIVAL - PART ONE
In Rio di Cannaregio, “Blame the Moon. Unpredictable extravagances for dreamers and time travellers” will be staged.
The Festival is an exciting and spectacular water show organized by Studio Festi and Seconda Materia, where two apparently opposing realities meet and merge to create an extraordinary emotional imaginary between cyberpunk journeys and dreamlike dimensions.
VENETIAN FESTIVAL - PART TWO
Venice, a city on water, cannot fail to open one of the most popular manifestations without an event that is dedicated to rowing! For years, it has been the opening event of the edition that brings the colours of Carnival along the Grand Canal to Rio di Cannaregio.
Official Lunatic Dinner
In a Galaxy far far away… the Official Lunatic Dinner Ball Entertainment from other universes...
at Ca’ Vendramin Calergi Orbital Space Lounge & Casino a Lunatic Dinner Show, where sounds, lights, flavours and artistic performances lead to an emotional collision resulting in an interactive theatrical experience.
The majestic Ca ‘Vendramin Calergi palace with its splendid Renaissance rooms will be the magnificent venue for the official dinner of the Carnival of Venice 2019.
Mestre Carnival Street Show
The invasion of street artists returns to the centre of Mestre with “Things that are out of this world.. Cosmic invasions of art and entertainment for the city ”
The Mestre Carnival Street Show celebrates Carnival by turning into a cosmic space for the moon landing by extravagant artists who will flood the city and the spatial stage in Piazza Ferretto with arts and wonders of all kinds.

ST. MARK’S SQUARE | MISSION CARNIVAL 19
For 10 days, St. Mark’s Square will become an extraordinary platform, where parades of extravagant masks, space shows and cosmic music will be landing, allowing the public to experience a full immersion in a visionary galaxy.
THE FLIGHTS
An extraordinary edition of the Flight of the Angel in St. Mark’s Square with a double launch: from the bell tower in St. Mark’s Square. This year’s Flight of the Angel will be something more and the people in the square will be able to see the exceptional Flight of the Angel-Warrior Micol Rossi, followed by the Angel of the 2019 Carnival, Erika Chia.
FLIGHT OF THE EAGLE
At the 12th stroke of the “marangona” bell, the Eagle of the Carnival of Venice 2019, Arianna Fontana, champion of short track events, winner of 8 Olympic medals, will be taking flight
The choice to host Arianna Fontana is in recognition of the world of sport, its values and its profound educational value, and, at the same time, it is a message of support for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic candidacy.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MASK CONTEST
The group “The children of light”, from Bielefeld, Germany are the winners of this popular contest, out of the hundreds of costumes parading in the last few weeks. The group was wearing the masks created by Hors Raack in a year of work. The prize was a piece of artwork in Murano glass created by the master glassmaker Lucio Bubacco and dinner at the “Lunatic Dinner Show” at Ca’ Vendramin Calergi.
Winning the award of the most traditional mask was “Matrimonio all’Italiana” interpreted by two people from Naples from the “Borboni si nasce” Association.
The most original mask, on the other hand, was that of two “hermit crabs”, interpreted by two participants from Cremona. The Maurice special prize went to the peacock mask.
A vincere la sezione della maschera più tradizionale, “Matrimonio all’Italiana”, interpretata da due persone provenienti da Napoli dell’Associazione “Borboni si nasce”.
La maschera più originale è stata invece quella di due “paguri”, interpretati da due partecipanti provenienti da Cremona. Il premio speciale Maurice è invece andato alla maschera del pavone.
CARNIVAL OF MARGHERA
One of the main traditional events of carnival on the mainland in Marghera is the parade of floats!

THE CHILDREN’S CARNIVAL IN ZELARINO
The Zelarino Children’s Carnival reaches its 52nd edition, with many moments of fun.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNER OF THE FESTA DELLE MARIE 2019 AND THE FLIGHT OF THE LION
The Flight of the Lion and the official presentation of the winner of the Festa delle Marie of Venice Carnival 2019 will sweep away the fog from St. Mark’s Square.
Linda Pani is the Maria of the Carnival of Venice 2019 and Eleonora Boscolo is the Maria of the Readers. The two beautiful young ladies were announced as the winners last night in the Apollonian halls of the Gran Teatro la Fenice at the end of a gala evening with the participation of illustrious guests and authorities in eighteenth-century costumes and evening dresses. Linda is 18 years old, born in Mestre and now lives in Mogliano Veneto; she is a student at an acting academy in Rome.
We will see her again as the Angel in next year’s Flight of the Angel.
CARNIVAL OF VENICE LIDO
Music, on the roadshows and fun in Gran Viale with majorettes and 300 extras all dressed up in masks.
The Astrocicli group show with streamers, confetti and jokes.
CARNIVAL OF CAMPALTO
The floats travel along via Bagaron, via Orlanda and then continue towards the airport up to the church of San Benedetto. The parade ends with the award-giving ceremony for the best floats.
CULTURAL EVENTS
The theme of the event will be a tribute to the Moon on the fiftieth anniversary of the moon landing. Exhibitions, guided tours, concerts, theatrical plays, workshops and educational play activities for children. Original and ad hoc projects offer numerous activities every day, which are almost all free or at low prices.
