The format for the Carnival of Venice 2008 already bears the promise of something new and different in the title: Sensation, 6 senses for 6 districts.
We have always used our 5 senses: sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell to discover the world. The world is what we see, touch, hear, taste and smell, but it is also what we imagine: it is above all our 6th sense – it is in our minds. Each district can be discovered through the enhancement and spectacularization of one of the senses, along a path that leads the public to a new dimension of Carnival in which enjoyment is the protagonist. Enjoyment is a genuine element that comes from our perception; from the immediate use of our body and our senses. The senses will be expressed through elements of scenography, performances by theatrical groups and artists, concerts and light design installations.
San Polo will be the district dedicated to sight, Santa Croce to smell, Dorsoduro to touch, Castello to hearing and Cannaregio to taste. St. Mark will be the sensory, imaginative and thinking centre of the City that embraces the mind – a real intersection of all the senses, in all senses. St. Mark will, therefore, be the pulsating centre of everything, a mind place and sensorial mainstay, hosting the main stage on which musical, theatrical and artistic performances will be alternating. Great events for the new Carnival of Venice 2008. The Carnival of Venice is all about Sensation: for those who want to experience the 6 senses at the most famous Carnival in the world. Come and explore this wonderful City and this territory.
FESTA DELLE MARIE 2008
The Festa delle Marie is one of the oldest and most renowned Venetian celebrations to open the great Carnival celebrations, accompanied by popular games, tournaments, artists and musicians. The procession winds its way from S. Pietro di Castello to St. Mark’s Square.
The event is organized by: CERS – The European Consortium of Historical Re-enactments, Associazione Amici del Carnevale and Associazione Internazionale per il Carnevale. Directed by Bruno Tosi.
SENSATION PARTIES
Six dance floors, twenty DJs, including Spiller and Albertino, three bars, video installations, 5,000 people, 40,000 Watts of power, over 60 hours of music to celebrate the opening of the Carnival of Venice 2008.

FLIGHT OF THE ANGEL 2008
A traditional event of Venice Carnival 2008 will be revisited for the Sensation edition. Coolio, the Rapper, who will be wearing Moschino designer clothes will be “flying” down from the bell tower.
When the flight of the Angel used to take place in St. Mark’s Piazzetta.
THE CARNIVAL OF MESTRE - FLIGHT OF THE DONKEY
In Mestre, on the other hand, there is the Flight of the Donkey; a fun and amusing symbol of the carnival game of the “topsy turvy world”.
With the participation of Compagnia dei Folli, Asineria del Giglio, Paola Brolati and Fabio Koryu Calabrò.

PITURA FRESKA CONCERT IN ST. MARK’S SQUARE
The Venetian band, Pitura Freska will be closing the Carnival on Shrove Tuesday 2008. After several years from their last performance, the band is set to reunite on stage in St. Mark’s Square for the ‘Sensational concert’.
