Venice, a tale of masks
A story of Carnival traditions, masks, and the art of mask-making

Why were masks an essential part of Venetian life for more than six months of the year? What does it take to make an authentic Venetian mask? And did you know that not even the plague could stop Carnival?

Once again this year, Ca’ Macana opens the doors of its workshop to unveil the fascinating world of Venice Carnival, its traditions, masks, and old craftsmanship. Through an intense experience, visitors will have the chance to rediscover the ancient customs and techniques that bring these extraordinary creations to life.

During the event it will be possible to learn about the history, symbolism and the secrets of processing that make each mask unique. The craftsmen of Ca’ Macana will give live demonstrations of the traditional techniques. The masks are made by hand using methods that have stood the test of time. An exclusive opportunity to enter the heart of true Venetian tradition.

Venue: Dorsoduro 3215, Venice
Presentation languages: Italian, English and French on alternate days
Maximum number of participants: 45 people
