MovieLab – L’invenzione della neve

The first appointment of the new year with MovieLab, the series by The Human Safety Net curated by Francesco della Puppa, Professor of Sociology at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. The title of this year’s edition is Views of the Real. The Cinema of Reality and is dedicated to cinema as a means of encounter, community, and responsibility. The film we are proposing for this appointment is The Invention of Snow by director Vittorio Moroni, which will be screened in the theater. It tells the story of Carmen, a woman with a vulnerable past. Separated from her mother as a child, along with her sister, and placed in a foster home, Carmen is now the mother of a little girl, Giada. However, the little girl has been entrusted to her father by a judge, and Carmen can only see her every 15 days. Carmen does not intend to accept this situation because, despite the mistakes she has made in the past, she feels and wants to be a fully-fledged mother. A film about feelings, family resilience, parenting, and commitment and perseverance as tools for overcoming social marginalization.
