At the Fabbrica del Vedere, an exhibition that intertwines cinema and photography to reflect the gaze of those who—in 19th-century Venice—toiled, swam, rowed, ran, and built. A time when “competitions” meant more than just athletic competition, but also endurance, skill, the pace of work, and the poetry of everyday gestures.

Opening Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 5:30 PM

La Fabbrica del Vedere is a space where themes of the moving image are explored, from experimental cinema to artistic video. It is a place of study and vision, where contemporary ideas are discussed and ancient reproduction systems can be put to the test. It’s a true factory because it was founded to work, with vision and thought.

Located in Venice on Calle del Forno, La Fabbrica del Vedere consists of a space for meetings, exhibitions, and workshops, and—on the upper floor—a video library, library, and storage area for materials (engravings and prints, photographs and films, magnetic tapes and digital codes, and related equipment) that bear witness to what Gian Piero Brunetta calls “the flight of the iconomaniac.” The headquarters and materials can be visited and consulted by appointment.

La Fabbrica del Vedere is the cornerstone of the Carlo Montanaro Archive Cultural Association.
