La Canzone di Zeza ed il ballo della Quadriglia
Also present at the Venice Carnival is a delegation from Avellino, which will open the Stage in St. Mark’s Square on Monday, Feb. 12th at 11 a.m. with: Zeza’s Song and the Quadrille dance!
La Zeza represents the marriage of Porzia, daughter of Pulcinella and Zeza, to Don Zenobio, a young doctor from Calabria and suitor of the girl.
Jealous of his daughter, Pulcinella does not want to grant her to the suitor, while her mother Zeza, a shrewd and pandering woman, is already clear about her marriage plan to settle her daughter and tries to convince her husband. After a physical confrontation between the girl’s father and the suitor, Pulcinella is wounded by Don Zenobio, but is rescued and healed by the same in return for a promise to grant him his daughter, allowing the couple to celebrate the marriage. Marriage that ends with an explosive and choreographed quadrille dance danced by the different characters.
