Talchum Mask Dance Show da Andong – Corea

From 12:00 to 13:00

The events of Venice Carnival 2024 may be delayed, suspended, or cancelled, in case of weather conditions – verified at the specific sites and on the spot – that compromise a safe performance.

In these cases, it will be promptly communicated through on-site and web/social communication channels.

On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Korea, Tal Chum, a folk art in traditional Korean culture that combines dance, music and theater and performed by characters wearing wooden or papier-mâché masks as an allegory of social conflicts, returns to St. Mark’s Square. Similar in some respects to those in our Commedia dell’Arte, the animated characters of Talchum get into awkward, funny, sometimes even rough situations at the end of which, however, the values of “reconciliation” and “peace” always emerge.

The Talchum has been listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2022.
